Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada met US President Barrack Obama on Thursday for the first official visit by a Canadian leader in 19 years. Besides the political importance of the meeting, Canadian PM’s wife, Sophie, seldom dubbed among “the hottest first ladies in the world”, took everyone’s eyes at the official meeting and dinner in Washington due to her inspiring outfits signed by a Romanian-born Canadian designer.
During Thursday’s White House dinner, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, went floral in a bright purple dress with coral flower trim by designer Lucian Matis, originary from Blaj, Transylvania.
Earlier on Thursday she had also worn an outfit signed by Matis, a knee-length red and pink dress.
“I like working with Sophie Trudeau. She is usually picking something directly from a collection or, if she wants tailor-made outfits, she is very stylish, she knows wexactly what she wants,” designer Matis said.
He hopes these outfits coming into notice during the White House events will augur well for his career.
“I wish more sales and that my outfits to get famous around the world. The competition is tough, it’s pretty difficult for the designers in Canada,” the Romanin-born designer added.
Lucian Matis is a Canadian citizen, but he was born in Blaj, in Alba county, Romania and left the country 17 years ago to settle down in Canada.
He moved to Canada in 1999 and he studied fashion design at Ryerson University. However his passion for fashion has deeper roots, back in his mother’s tailor shop in Sibiu.
