21yo Romanian computer science graduate wins Nobel Junior 2018 prize

Cristian Bodnar, aged 21, who has recently graduated from the University of Manchester, Computer Science faculty, has won the Undergraduate Awards this year, also known as the Nobel Junior Prize. Irish President, Michael D. Higgings, will also award Cristian Bodnar for his performances in the computer science field, Bistriteanul local daily reported.

Cristian, who is from Bistrita, but studied in the UK, has won the renowned prize with his research “Text to Image Synthesis. Using Generative Adversarial Networks”, about which he says is a paper about generating images from a text using mathematics patterns of some neuronal networks. “You give my programme a sentence such as <a red flower> and it will generate images featuring red flowers like a person would imagine a red flower,” Cristian Bodnar told Bistrițeanul.ro. “I am honored that I have been chosen as Global Winner in Computer Science,” he added.

The Romanian’s research has over 50 pages and it is dedicated to his brother, Andrei.

Over 5,000 papers within 25 categories have raced for the Undergraduate Awards edition this year.
