MIT recommends Romanian math camp for excellence

The APEX camp of excellence in mathematics organized for the first time in Reșita this year, with professors from prestigious Western universities, appears on the list of recommendations of the Faculty of Mathematics of the American university MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the strongest in scientific and technological research.

APEX-Maths (Academic Program of EXcellence in Mathematics) is an intensive and immersive 3-weeks-long summer residential program in Romania offering a unique opportunity to get a taste of mathematical research and scientific discovery. The participants – a maximum number of 40 – will be able to experience the world of research from within, as they will explore new mathematical concepts under the guidance of top internationally recognized university professors and PhD students,” MIT Mathematics says.

APEX is a mathematics excellence camp launched by former Education Minister Daniel Funeriu in cooperation with the Romanian Academy’s Institute of Mathematics and with the support of the Reșița City Hall.

The first edition of the summer camp for high school students passionate about mathematics from around the world brought together 48 students from Israel, the United States, Canada, South Korea, Romania, France, Ukraine, Moldova, and Italy in Reșița for three weeks. All participants underwent a selection process.

Their teachers included researchers, top international mathematicians, and former Olympiad gold medalists, according to Edupedu.ro.
