Also known as “Apuseni Transalpina”, the county road 107 I which links Aiud to several big communes in the Apuseni Mountains, is one of the most exquisite and winding roads in Romania.

For that purpose, the local council of Alba want to revamp the road within a EUR 44 M project on the following route: Aiud (national road 1) – Aiudul de Sus – Rîmeţ – Brădeşti – Geogel – Măcăreşti – Bîrleşti Cătun – Cojocani – Valea Barnii – Bîrleşti – Mogoş – Valea Albă – Ciuculeşti – Bucium – Izbita – Coleşeni – Bucium Sat –74 national road (Cerbu)”.

The financing bid will be filed by November 16 within the Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020.

The alpine road is crossing peaks measuring over 1,000m high and areas of rare beauty, dotted with forests, gorges and clearings.

“The project will help this area develop into a major economic and touristic region, while enabling people to know the county’s beauties. The conclusion deadline is four years, we hope we can finish it in four years. It’s a difficult work on a long, hardly accessible road,” said Ion Dumitrel, the leader of Alba county council.

The road is also important as it will link the town of Abrud of Aiud and to the Sebes-Turda highway and it will allow tourists come in the neighborhood more easily.

At present, the road is quite deteriorated. The modernization programme will include, besides the asphalt work, routes for the cyclists.

The total length of the road is 78,42 kilometers and the project values is worth EUR 44 M.
