Ex-tennis player Dinu Pescariu: I was in Kovesi’s office, I was hinted to file denunciations

Former tennis player Dinu Pescaru, prosecuted in several corruption files, told Mediafax news agency on Thursday that he met DNA chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi in her office and he was suggested to file some denunciations.

Pescariu said he would talk more about it after giving the first statements to the judges in court.

He also complained that his public image has been actually one deliberately drafted by the anti-corruption prosecutors.

Pescariu added that the two files in which is currently investigated are based on “an untrue denunciations” filed be the same person, businessman Dorin Cocos, former husband of ex-minister Elena Udrea.

“There is nothing real in these denunciations. He either has been forced to file them or he wanted to get a revenge for what has happened,” Pescariu stated.

Asked about the information that Liviu Dragnea, George Maior or Florian Coldea would have played tennis at “Cutezatorii” sports base, Pescariu answered: “Maior was here, but not for tennis. I have never seen Coldea. As for Dragnea and Ponta, I played tennis with them here”.

Dinu Pescariu are the main indicters in the Microsoft file, which ended with sentencing Dorin Cocos to two years and four months in prison in 2016. Former minister Gabriel Sandu, former Neamt mayor Gheorghe Stefan and businessman Nicolae Dumitru also received jail sentences in this case.

Moreover, anti-corruption prosecutors have placed Pescariu under judicial control this week in a new file regarding the take over of “Cutezatorii” sports base, next to former Education ministry’s official Mihnea Costoiu, with the prejudice being estimated to EUR 93 M
