Exercise near the border with Serbia, to test the Romanian authorities’ response capacity to the flow of refugees.Temporary camp for refugees set up in Timis

An exercise to test the response of the operational capacity of the Romanian authorities to the flow of refugees registered in countries neighbouring Romania is taking place near the border with Serbia, in Timis County, informs the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). The exercise takes place upon the order of Vice-premier and Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea.
The exercise is a continuation of the preventive and pro-active measures taken by institutions included in the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations, MAI further informs.
During the latest weeks, Romanian authorities have increased the security measures on Romania’s border with Serbia, by deploying forces and logistical resources from within the Interior Ministry.

Among activities in progress within the exercise testing operational capacities there are also setting up temporary camps for potential asylum-seekers coming to Romania.

So, a temporary camp for refugees has been already set up up near Lunga locality in Timis county, while another one will be placed in Stamora Moravita area, also in Timis county, Interior Ministry informed.

“Even if Romania is not facing a migrant pressure, these actions are needed to test our reaction capacities to the dynamics in the region,” Romanian Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea argued.

The temporary camps will serve as centers for the foreign citizens’ selection, registration, identification and fingerprinting.
