French Ambassador in Romania, Francois Saint Paul, has attended on Monday the works of the Bucharest-Paris Workshop 2016 and highlighted the importance of the cooperation between the two cities on long term, in terms of urban development.
“This seminar is very important because we believe it’s necessary to develop the relations between Paris and Bucharest, the exchange of experience in the field of urban planning being interesting. We want to develop a long-term cooperation, because when we talk about urban planning we must always think ahead,” the French Ambassador said.
He expressed his belief a French or a German model should not be a solution, but an own model is.
City Hall deputy mayor Mircea Raicu said that the exchange of information is meant to have its say in solving the problems Bucharest is currently facing.
Bucharest chief-architect Gheorghe Patrascu said administrative reorganisation would be useful, saying the division of Bucharest into six districts is ‘harmful’, all of them having areas downtown.
In Patrascu’s view, the capital city is facing huge infrastructure problems, some which the great European cities have solved some 50 years ago.
The workshop Bucharest-Paris 2016 is organised by the Bucharest City Hall during February 1-3. The workshop aims at identifying solutions for urban and social development for the city, taking advantage of the French specialists’ experience.
