Romanian gendarmes had a more particular celebration of the national poet Mihai Eminescu’s birth (January 15) this year. The Gendarmerie posted on Facebook a recording where they say the poem “Ce-ti doresc eu tie, dulce Românie/What I wish for you, sweet Romania”, probably the most moving patriotic ode of the Romanian literature.
The recording reveals that several gendarmes deployed in Afghanistan, from the Special Guard Unit and from the Bucharest Gendarmerie, are saying in turn two lines of the famous poem.
The Gendarmerie also notes that 1850, the year when Mihai Eminescu was born is also the year when the Romanian Gendarmerie was set up, when ruler Grigore Alexandru Ghica signed the decree of the Army birth.
The Interior Ministry also celebrated the poet’s birth year in a special way, posting a plastic photo on its Facebook page, depicting some gendarmes who save a photo of Eminescu from a flooded house.
Mihai Eminescu (Januayr 15, 1850 – June 15, 1889) was a Romanian poet, novelist and journalist, often regarded as the most famous and influential Romanian poet.
January 15 has been celebrated as the National Culture Day starting 2011
