Glider missing since August, found in Postavarul Mountains, the pilot is dead. Recovery operation to continue on Sunday

Intervention teams have found Saturday at noon, in the Muchia Cheii area of Postavarul Mountains, the wreckage of the glider piloted by Mircea Craciun and missing since August 6, around the same area, following a tourist call at 112 announcing that he saw pieces of a glider. Inside the wreckage the pilot’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition.
The research and recovery operations were interrupted Saturday night and are to be resumed on Sunday, said the Brasov prefect Mihai Mohaci.
The Prefect said pilot Mircea Craciun’s corpse was found in the cockpit, but not in one piece.
“The body was not taken because night was falling and transport in an area so steep would have endangered the lives of the intervention teams. No helicopter could intervene in this area, and on Sunday, in safe conditions, we will continue the operations,” said the spokesman of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Brasov, Captain Ciprian Sfreja.
The pilot was 57 and had thousands of hours of flight. The small plane (glider) had taken off on August 6 at 12.00h from Ghimbav airport (Brasov County) and at 00.00h was reported missing, following its failure to return.
Several locals in the Rucar-Bran area said they saw an aircraft and heard a loud bang. The searches are carried out by ISU, rescuers, policemen, army and police helicopters. But the operation began only Friday morning.
The glider with registration D 5855, piloted by Mircea Craciun, 57 years old, pilot instructor at Aero Club Brasov, was towed on August 6,.2015 at 12:30h (local time) on Ghimbav Aerodrome with the declared intention to fly 2-3 hours for checks.
