The head of the Administration and Service Base of the Romanian Gendarmerie, Marian Corcodel, was remanded by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) prosecutors in a file regarding usury and blackmail, judicial sources say.
Marian Corcodel will be presented to the judges of the Bucharest Court of Appeal with a 30-day preventive arrest proposal, antena3.ro informs.
Another employee of the Management Centre is under judicial review.
The DIICOT prosecutors carried out 12 searches (7 of them at the offices of public institutions) in Bucharest and Ilfov County on Thursday, in an operation aimed at the destructuring of an organized criminal group specialized in committing crimes of usury, embezzlement and other crimes.
“In this file there is the reasonable suspicion that, since 2011 hitherto, several individuals at the Administration and Service Base of the Romanian Gendarmerie have built an organized criminal group, repeatedly loaning money to debtors, for huge interests and have also taken over goods belonging to the unit,” the prosecutors say.
The operation was conducted with the support of the Inspectorate General of the Romanian Gendarmerie – the Special Intervention Brigade ‘Vlad Tepes’ and of the Interior Ministry.
