The number of COVID-19 cases is increasing in Romania, with over 19,600 reported in the last 24 hours, which is the highest daily tally since the beginning of the pandemic. 49 related deaths have also been recorded in the past day, with no previous death. 43 of the latest victims were not vaccinated.
According to existing data on January 21, 10:00hrs, 19,649 cases of people infected with SARS-COV-2 have been reported, which is an all-time high.
A day ago, there were 19,105 COVID-19 infections confirmed and 43 associated deaths, with 4 of them occurring in the previous weeks.
The all time high on COVID-19 infections in one day in Romania had been reported on October 19, 2021 – 18,863.
82,330 tests were conducted in the past day- 26,336 RT-PCR tests and 55,994 rapid antigen tests – which means a positive trend rate of 23.86%.
Overall, so far there have been 1,983,670 cases of SARS-COV-2 infections in Romania since the beginning of the pandemic, with 27,903 being reinfected patients. 1,812,242 patients were declared cured.
The death toll surged to 59,477 , with 49 new more dead patients in the last 24 hours: 21 men and 29 women from Alba, Arad, Bacău, Botoșani, Brașov, Buzău, Caraș-Severin, Cluj, Constanța, Dâmbovița, Dolj, Galați, Giurgiu, Harghita, Iași, Maramureș, Mureș, Olt, Prahova, Sălaj, Sibiu, Suceava, Teleorman, Timiș, Vaslui, Vrancea and Bucharest.
Out of those 49 latest dead patients, two were in the 40-49 age group, six in the 50-59 age group, 11 in the 60-69 age group, eight among people in their 70s and 22 in patients in their 80s and over 80.
47 of the victims had comorbidities, one presented no comorbidity and another one was reported with no other pre-existing condition.
Among those 49 recent victims, 43 were not vaccinated and six were vaccinated. Vaccinated dead patients were aged from 50 to over 80 and they all had underlying medical conditions.
5,405 Romanians infected with COVID-19 were admitted in hospital units on Friday, by 460 more than in the previous day. 564 patients were in intensive care, by 17 more than on Thursday. Among those 564 in ICU, only 65 had vaccination certificates.
Infection rate
Meanwhile, the incidence rat continues to rise in Bucharest and countrywide. The COVID-19 infection rate has exceeded 8 per one thousand inhabitants (8.03) in the Capital on Friday, compared to 7.15 a day ago. The incidence rate was just 0.72 per 1,000 on January 1, 2022.
It is the 23rd day in a row of increasing infection rate in Bucharest.
