Romania Plans €70M Proton Therapy Center

The Ministry of Health initiates a market consultation for the establishment of the “Center of Excellence for Diagnostics and Proton Therapy Treatment,” a €70 million investment.

The tender procedure’s launch is due in August.

“Only 10 days after the signing of the Ministerial Order establishing the technical working group for the construction of the National Proton Therapy Center worth 70 million euros, the Ministry of Health is launching the market consultation stage for integrated services: design, execution and endowment, necessary for the development of the project”, the Ministry of Health transmitted in a press release.

Health Minister Alexandru Rafila highlighted it as Romania’s inaugural proton therapy endeavor, representing the country’s most substantial equipment investment for oncology patients.

“The only proton therapy center in Southeastern Europe will be built. The Ministry of Health is directly involved in order for this advanced method of treatment of oncological patients to be carried out in the shortest possible time. After building the 7 new radiotherapy centers, ensuring access to stereotactic radiotherapy, we continue with the biggest investment in medical equipment for oncology patients“, said in his turn Alexandru Rafila, Minister of Health.
