Romania, the first EU country that started vaccination for teens aged 12 to 15. Almost 2,000 vaccinated in the first day

Romania is the first country in the European Union that kicked off the vaccination campaign for the 12-15 age group, due to the vaccination strategy that allows in the third phase this age group to be eligible, doctor Valeriu Gheorghita, the coordinator of the national vaccination campaign, told a press conference on Thursday.

According to him, 1,903 youngsters aged 12 to 15 got vaccinated in the first 24 hours since the debut of the campaign for their age.

The vaccination of the teenagers aged 12 to 15 started on Wednesday, June 2, exclusively with the BioNTech-Pfizer jab.

The most teens vaccinated in the 12-15 age category in the past day are from Bucharest – 494, then from Cluj – 178 and Ilfov – 140.

4,173 children aged 12 to 15 are scheduled for vaccination on the online platform so far

“The vaccination of people aged 12 to 15 can be done without appointment either, they can come directly to the vaccination centres where the immunisation is done with the Pfizer vaccine, both at fixed centres and drive-through ones, marathon vaccination events, and in the family doctors’ offices. We recommend vaccination with previous appointment on the platform, to reduce the waiting times”, Valeriu Gheorghiță detailed.

He reminded that the parents or the legal guardians must give their consent for the vaccination of the children and the minors must be accompanied by one of the parents or legal representatives.
