Hidroelectrica to sue authorities for the pollution on Izvorul Muresului reservoir

Hidroelectrica considers suing local authorities to recover the prejudices caused by the pollution on Izvorul Muntelui reservoir, reads a company’s press release.

Hidroelectrica argues it is paying huge sums of money for a pollution which is not responsible of and that is the target of pressures from the local and environment authorities. The company says that it’s not its fault in this pollution matter, and blames tourists and locals for throwing garbage in the reservoir. Hidroelectrica also accuse authorities for not giving fines and for not setting up special locations for picnics. On the other hand, local officials ask Hidroelectrica to clean the lakes, although the company has obtained the annulment of this obligation in court.

The pollution in this area lately is among the most serious one, with Hidroelectrica estimating the financial effort needed for a cleaning a greening process would mount to RON 816,000, VAT excepted.

The energy state-owned company says that following the flood on July 1, Bistrita River brought out major piles of trash, particularly plastic and plant debris, which are accumulating in the area of Izvorul Muntelui dam or float on the lake.

According to Hidroelectrica, around 200 tons of wood, 45 tons of plastics and 10 tons of other debris are to be collected from the lake surface (30 hectares of water), claiming he has collected this year, on its own expense, 27 tons of wood, 15 tons of PET plastic bottles and 3 tons of other debris.
