A Romanian stole two diamonds and two rings worth EUR 5 M in France, with Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors capturing the man while trying to bring part of the catch in Bucharest. He is now under preventive arrest.
Romanian George Ploscaru is suspected of stealing the diamonds and the two rings with precious stones from a jewelry store in France on December 30, 2016. The jewelry is estimated at EUR 5.2 M.
Judiciary sources told TVR that the suspect recommended himself as a jewelry rater of a Jewish potential customer. He took advantage of the store staff’s negligence and replaced the diamonds and the rings with some worthless replicas.
The suspect has been helped by two Serbian citizens who got half of the catch: a diamond and a ring.
The Romanian thief sold the diamond before returning to Romania and he has tried to sell the ring to some foreign citizens in a hotel in Bucharest, two days ago. The sale was yet put on hold, as they haven’t agreed on the price.
Investigators found out the ring following searches. The suspect, who is also charged with setting up a criminal group, has been placed under preventive arrest. The investigation is also eyeing the man’s lover, who is accused of receiving.
