Over 300 people protested in the Universitate Square on Thursday evening against the recent draft laws passed by the MPs, related to the conflict of interest, special pensions for the local elected or the veto against the DNA’s prosecution request in the case of former FM Titus Corlatean.
Protesters chanted against the lawmakers. “Down with the criminal ones”, “Down with the criminal Parliament, in court”, “The Parliament of shame” or “We don’t want criminals in the public institutions”.
Protesters, mainly youngsters said that “if protests were staged on Facebook and the vote also took place there, something might probably change in this country.”
Nicusor Dan, ranked second in the recent local elections for the Bucharest City Hall and Clotilde Armand, the French woman who ran for the District 1 City Hall, both members of the Save Bucharest Union, also attended the gathering.
On the other hand, gendarmes warned protesters that they have no authorization and risk being fined.
Over 200 people also staged a protest in Unirii Square in Cluj Napoca, to voice their discontent with the latest decisions taken by the Parliament before entering the summer recess.
They chanted “Education, not corruption”, “DNA, we are by your side”, “No special pensions, just prison”, “We want justice, not immunity”, “Revolution in full swing, Parliament on the scrap heap”, “We don’t want a Parliament of thieves”.
The protest in Cluj is authorized during 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and it might be resumed every day.
