In a much-needed educational effort, dozens of ING Bank Romania employees will volunteer to teach financial education classes in nearly 60 high schools across Bucharest and 20 counties nationwide. The program, titled “Banometry Course,” was launched in 2024 by the National Federation of Parents FNaP ProEdu, with support from the Banometru platform, and is now expanding nationally after a successful pilot in 10 schools in Bucharest and Ploiești last year.
“Financial education is vital and included in the Ministry of Education’s vision for shaping future generations, specifically through the National Strategy for Financial Education (SNEF),” said Sorin Ion, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Research. “I welcome this initiative supporting teenagers’ financial literacy and contributing to the objectives set by the national strategy.”
The 2025 edition of the Banometry Course targets over 9,000 students and 300 teachers from 60 pre-university institutions in Bucharest and 20 other cities. Volunteers from ING Bank Romania, divided into three teams, will visit cities such as Alexandria, Arad, Bacău, Brăila, Brașov, Bucharest (all sectors), Buzău, Câmpina, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Făgăraș, Focșani, Galați, Giurgiu, Iași, Pitești, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Sibiu, Timișoara, and Tulcea over the next two weeks to deliver these courses to teenagers.
Participating schools include “George Călinescu” High School and “Tudor Vianu” National College of Informatics in Bucharest, “Andrei Șaguna” National College in Brașov, “Octavian Goga” National College in Sibiu, “Grigore Moisil” Theoretical High School in Timișoara, “Elena Cuza” National College in Craiova, “Mircea cel Bătrân” National College in Constanța, “Gheorghe Munteanu-Murgoci” National College in Brăila, and “Vasile Alecsandri” National College in Iași, among others.
“We’re happy to see the Banometry Course expand nationwide, especially since the 2024 pilot clearly impacted how participating students manage and plan their finances,” said Maria Cristina Matei, Director of Operations at ING Bank Romania. “We also welcome the Ministry of Education’s inclusion of financial education in a multi-year national strategy, which allows for greater investment in this crucial area.”
“The more financially educated Romania’s children are, the more conscious and responsible decisions they’ll make as adults—for themselves and for the country,” added Eugen Ilea, President of the National Federation of Parents FNaP ProEdu. “Understanding basic financial concepts and the functioning of financial systems directly improves future generations’ quality of life. We are deeply grateful to ING Bank Romania for their vision and exceptional mobilization in scaling up this initiative.”
Each Banometry Course includes a one-hour session led by a trained financial instructor—an ING Bank Romania volunteer with experience and a background in education. Every participating student also receives a brochure with basic financial concepts to reinforce the lessons learned during the class.
