Interior ministry proposes harsher penalties for immigrants’ traffickers

Interior minister Gabriel Oprea asks for harsher penalties for the immigrants’ traffickers.

Oprea ordered a new draft law to discourage those who recruit and transport persons in the view of illegally crossing Romania’s state border, reads a press release issued by the Interior ministry on Monday.

According to the draft, the minimum penalty is to increase from 3 to 5 years in prison, while the maximum punishment if the migrant is subject to maltreatment will be up to 12 years in jail.

At the same time, the draft stipulated the special seizure of goods used in any way to commit these crimes or of the money resulted from the migrant trafficking.
