Judicial Inspection to hand in the report on Prosecutor’s Office to the CSM by November 10

The Judicial Inspection is ending checks on the Prosecutor’s Office upon the High Court of Cassation and Justice today, with the report to be forwarded to the Superior Council of Magistracy by November 10, the inspection announced on Twitter Friday.

The checks on the General Prosecutor’s Office started on September 4 and have been conducted by eight judicial inspectors. The checks have bee ordered by the head inspector following the Justice minister’s proposal and referred to the Prosecutor’s Office activity from 2016 to the first semester of 2017.

The Judicial Inspection checked if the managerial responsibilities are taken at the Prosecutor’s Office, how the prosecutors are assigned on the activity fields, what are the prosecutors’ working conditions, relation with the judges, the judicial police and mass media, if the cases are objectively assigned and how is the planning on short, medium and long term.

Inspectors also probed into the criminal prosecution activity and into how much time the prosecutors need to solve complaints, notifications and memos.

Justice minister Tudorel Toader asked the Judicial Inspection on June 19 to conduct checks at the National Anti-corruption Directorate and at the Prosecutor’s Office to see how efficient are the current managers, arguing no controls have been conducted at DNA for almost 10 years.

But, on a long shot, the Justice minister’s move comes after recordings featuring the DNA chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi allegedly ordering her subordinates how to conduct investigations and whom they should target have been released in the public space.

A similar check has also been conducted at the National Anti-corruption Directorate, which stirred controversies as well, as it was also related to the case of a judicial inspector’s being taped while accusing pressures on her by the DNA head Kovesi.
