Darius Vâlcov brought from Italy today

The former PSD minister, Darius Vâlcov, who was sentenced to six years in prison and fled to Italy, is brought to Romania on Monday afternoon.

Last week, the Minister of Justice Alina Gorghiu announced, in a post on her Facebook page, that the appeal made by Darius Vâlcov was rejected as inadmissible by the Italian Court of Cassation.

Thus, the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Naples, which ordered his handover to the Romanian authorities for the execution of the European arrest warrant and the 6-year prison sentence pronounced by the High Court in our country, remains final.

Gorghiu added that “in the following days, the official communication of the decision to the Romanian authorities is expected and the continuation of the steps for the effective surrender of Vâlcov Darius Bogdan”.

Darius Vâlcov surrendered to the Italian authorities on May 23, in Naples. According to Italian law, considering the place of delivery, the jurisdiction of the Naples Court of Appeal was drawn. The Italian execution court did not order the provisional arrest with a view to surrender, being left free, under supervision.

Previously, the former Minister of Finance Darius Vâlcov had been prosecuted by the Romanian Police, after he was sentenced to six years in prison with execution for influence peddling and money laundering.

Minel Prina, former mayor of Slatina municipality, sentenced to four and a half years in prison in the same case, was put on the wanted list. Vâlcov was sentenced by the High Court of Cassation and Justice to six years in prison for influence peddling and money laundering, the court’s decision being final.
