Mayor of Deva Mircia Muntean has been sentenced to six years in prison in a final ruling on Monday. The Supreme Court judges have practically maintained the first court’s ruling, which sentenced the mayor to two years in prison for drink-driving, which added to a previous sentence of four years in jail for abuse of office.
The High Court of Cassation and Justice has thus maintained a previous convinction ruled in June last year. Back then, judges sentenced Mircia Muntean, who has just been elected the mayor of Deva, to two years in prison for drink-driving after he had been tracked down while driving a car in 2014 despite being drunk. At that moment, he was involved in car accident; he had fled the scene and tried to hide in the bushes.
Previously, in 2013, Mircia Muntean was sentenced to four years behind bars on probation for abuse of office, after he has been found guilty of clinching illegal real estate transactions with a luxury car trafficker.
