DNA probes into Senate’s papers on immunity lifting requests

The National Anti-corruption Directorate asked Senate on Wednesday to give it all documents in Dan Sova case as well as all papers drafted in 2014 and 2015 following DNA’s requests regarding senators’ prosecution and pre trial detention.

The DNA’s request comes after the Constitutional Court ruled in favor of the Superior Council of Magistracy in Sova case, compelling the Senate to pass a decision. CC practically decided the upper chamber blocked the judiciary’s activity.

Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu replied the DNA’s request is unique, as there have been no such requests so far.

“We are waiting for the Permanent Bureau’s decision. I think a point f view of the Legal Committee would be also useful. It is a new request until now. There is no interdiction to give the necessary documents whatsoever,” Tariceanu argued.
