The National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors have requested o Friday, to the Constanta Court, an executory sentence of seven years for Mircea Basescu and Marian Capatana and the restitution of EUR 250,000 by Mircea Basescu. The Court has postponed delivering a sentence until December 21.
Mircea Basescu, the brother of former President Traian Basescu, is changed with influence peddling, digi24.ro informs.
It’s not the only sentence called for by the DNA prosecutors for Mircea Basescu, who tried to intervene before a magistrate to save interloper Bercea Mondial from executing a jail sentence.
The investigators have also requested the confiscation of EUR 250,000 from Mircea Basescu and of EUR 350,000 from his accomplice Marian Căpăţână. Mircea Basescu’s lawyer called for his client’s acquittal and told the magistrates that, in his view, the 7 months of preventive arrest in jail are sufficient.
The DNA prosecutor has told the court that Marian Căpăţână has admitted the offense, but he said he kept for himself only EUR 100,000 and the rest of the money has been given to Mircea Basescu.
The Prosecutor further claims that in a recording, included in the file, Mircea Basescu acknowledges having received EUR 250,000. The prosecutor said the remaining money, i.e. EUR 350,000, remained with Marian Căpăţână, the prosecution requesting the court that these amounts be confiscated.
Mircea Basescu is on trial along with Marian Căpăţână in a file of bribe taking from the family of interloper Bercea Mondial.
The two were taken into custody on June 20, 2014, after the interloper’s family made public the recordings conducted by Bercea Mondial’s son, which would allegedly prove the influence peddling Mircea Basescu is accused of. The judges will decide on the case on December 21.
