Donald Trump, the first former US president to be convicted

The jury in the Stormy Daniels trial of former US President Donald Trump reached a verdict Thursday night after two days of deliberations. The New York jury deliberated for 11 hours over two days. Following this verdict, the trial judge, Juan Merchan, is to determine the sentence that Donald Trump will have to serve. The former US president is liable to prison or a fine. Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts. The jury reached this verdict unanimously, as required by the rules of the trial. Judge Juan Merchan determined that the sentence will be announced on July 11.

In that lawsuit, Trump is accused of trying to conceal a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep her from disclosing the fact that she had sex with him. Trump made this payment shortly before the 2016 presidential election in an attempt to prevent this information from appearing in the media.

Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, previously revealed that Trump asked him to pay the actress the sum of money so that she would not reveal anything about the sexual intercourse.

Trump has pleaded not guilty and denies having sex with Daniels in 2006.

The conviction, however, will not stop Trump from trying to win back the White House, nor will it prevent him from taking office if he wins the election. He could run or win even from prison. If that happens, however, Trump will not have the record of being the first presidential candidate to run a campaign from behind bars. In 1920, Socialist Party of America candidate Eugene Debs ran for the US presidency from prison, garnering just over 910,000 votes.

Well, if they ban him from the election race, there will be civil war.
