Extensive searches in the Port of Constanta in a corruption case

DNA prosecutors are carrying out 41 searches in the Port of Constanta on Monday morning, judicial sources have told Digi24.ro. The action is large-scale and targets acts of corruption – taking and giving bribes. Among those targeted by the investigation is the head of the PSD Constanța, Ion Dumitrache, according to the same sources.

DNA prosecutors are investigating a criminal case regarding suspicions of the commission, during 2024 – 2025, by public officials and businessmen of bribery and corruption crimes, in connection with the economic activity carried out in the Port of Constanta, the National Anticorruption Directorate announced in a statement on Monday.

“During February 24, 2025, following the obtaining of legal authorizations from the competent court, home searches are carried out in 41 locations located within the counties of Constanta, Dâmbovița, Brașov and Bucharest, one of which is the headquarters of a public institution, the rest representing the homes of individuals or the headquarters/workplaces of commercial companies,” the cited source also states.

Among the people targeted by investigators are the “customs officers’ group”, Aurelian Pilcă, Eugen Bogatu and Ion Dumitru, known for their influence in customs, but also Ion Dumitrache, the head of the PSD Constanța, according to judicial sources cited by Digi24.ro.

Documents are being sought in an investigation into bribery, bribery and abuse of office. And according to sources close to the investigation, it would be about millions of euros, which would have been collected by the official with decision-making power to facilitate certain procedures in the port on the Romanian coast.

A bribery case targeted as well

Prosecutors raided a home on Mamaia Boulevard in Constanta, as well as several companies operating in the Port of Constanta, according to sources close to the investigation cited by Ziua de Constanta.

The investigation is targeting acts of giving and taking bribes, Judicial sources stated that the case would target, among others, bosses and officials from the Port of Constanta, and the value of the bribe would amount to over 6 million euros. Several officials whose activities are related to the Port of Constanta are targeted, according to Digi 24.

It is the most extensive investigation to be carried out in the Port of Constanta in recent years.
