Five out of the 20 people suspected of having committed nearly 40 residential burglaries and an attempted murder have been detained by the prosecutors of Bucharest Court, who will ask the court their preventive arrest.
Officials from Bucharest Court Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday told Mediafax that the remand orders for the five persons have been issued on Tuesday evening after 20 people were heard.
Prosecutors will also ask the Court to issue remand warrants in absence on the name of two other suspects.
Policemen and prosecutors on Tuesday have made searches at various addresses in Bucharest, Ilfov and Calarasi, targeting members of Pietroi and Mogos clans, suspected to have committed 38 robberies and theft from residences during 2009-2014, as well as an attempted murder in 2014. 20 people were brought for hearings, including the shady leader Vasile Fierbantu, also known as Sile Pietroi.
Among the victims of the criminal groups’ members there are MEP and former prime minister of Romania, Theodor Stolojan and a magistrate from the High Court of Cassation and Justice, according to judicial sources.
Some of the suspects are accused that, on December 24, 2014, they attacked a man who owns a commercial space within Doraly complex. They hit him in the head with bats, and dispossessed him of RON 200,000. Investigators have initially suspected that the delinquents committed the felonies on tip, having known that the man has money on him. Following the investigations, policemen and prosecutors have determined, however, that the delinquents have only suspected that the man might be having a significant amount of money on him, as it was the Christmas Eve.
According to prosecutors, the members of the group were entering the residences after forcing the lock, then they were stealing money and other goods. The thieves were robbing on daylight, after making sure that the owners were not at home. The total prejudice was estimated at around RON 6 million.
