The General Prosecutor of Romania, Tiberiu Nitu, said on Thursday, before the plenary session of the Superior Council of Magistracy, regarding a possible reopening of the “Fleet” file, that “this fact will be taken into account”, adding that there will be many people who will make “all sorts of requests”.
“Us, the prosecutors, we exercise our powers as they are foreseen by law and we are not influenced by the president’s term ending or beginning. (…) Certainly, this fact will be taken into account and I sense there will be many people who will probably make all sorts of demands,” said Tiberiu Nitu.
The Chief of Public Ministry added that these analyzes will be made based on the evidence and on the basis of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The “fleet” file had as main goal the way in which the Romanian fleet has lost a series of high capacity ore ships, through crimes committed by those who would have fraudulently initiated and conducted CNM Petromin SA Constan?a’s association with the group of private companies Torvald Klaveness Oslo in Norway, during the period April 1991 – August 2000.
President Traian Basescu was involved in the case as Minister of Transport.
