Gabriel Berca, former senator, minister, secretary general of the Government and presidential adviser was sentenced on Thursday by the Bacau Court of Appeal to three years of detention for the crime of influence peddling in continued form.
The former official is to be seized the amount of EUR 92,500, or the equivalent in RON, while maintaining the precautionary seizure on the property owned by the defendant according to the amount, and the judicial control, antena3.ro informs.
Indicted in the same case and under the same charge is the former deputy Mihai Banu, who received from the court a sentence of three and half years imprisonment, confiscation of EUR 92,500, or the equivalent in RON, maintaining the precautionary measures of seizure for the amount and judicial control.
The two were indicted in August 2015, stayed in custody and at home for nearly five months, a period to be deducted from the sentence given by the court.
The lawyers of two former officials said that they will file in the next ten days an appeal against the Court of Appeal Bacau decision to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court).
