Former PSDR MP Mihai Tanjala, whose extradition to Romania was decided last week by a court in Cayman Islands, in order to serve a sentence of five years in prison for fraud, intends to appeal against that judgment, local media reports.
Tanjala was sentenced for corruption in Romania and placed under Interpol arrest warrant, was to be extradited to Romania from the Cayman Islands, where he had been arrested in October 2015.
Cayman Islands Chief Magistrate, Nova Hall, announced on December 29 that Tanjala was to be sent back home after a court ruling in this regard.
However, Tanja was moved from the detention centre for immigrants to the Northward Prison, given that he intends to appeal against the decision of extradition, according to the Cayman 27 News TV station.
He had two weeks to apply to the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands to request an order/warrant habeas corpus if he considers he had been illegally arrested.
