The four people were detained for 24 hours in a criminal case that concerns offenses of outrage, disturbing public order and peace, and destruction, according to representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Tribunal.
Bucharest police conducted four searches in Bucharest and Ilfov on Tuesday, in connection with the violence that occurred on March 9 in front of the Central Electoral Bureau in sector 3 of the capital, after the BEC invalidated the candidacy of Călin Georgescu.
Following these, prosecutors have initiated criminal proceedings against four people. A man is being investigated for outrage, destruction and disturbance of public order and peace, another for outrage and disturbance of public order and peace, the third man is being investigated for destruction and disturbance of public order and peace.
At the same time, a woman is being investigated for disturbance of public order and peace.
“Based on the evidence administered, it was established that, on the night of March 9-10, 2025, the defendants participated in the protest held in front of the headquarters of the Central Electoral Bureau, during which they threw blunt objects in the direction of the law enforcement agencies, some of these objects hitting the gendarmes on duty, overturned and damaged the vehicle belonging to a television station, and through this violence they disturbed public order and peace,” the prosecutors said.
Prosecutors also reported that other evidence is being administered in this case to establish all the consequences of the actions of the four people. Also, investigations continue to identify all the people who committed similar acts at that protest. The four people were detained for 24 hours, and will be presented to the 3rd District Court with a proposal for preventive arrest for 30 days.
