The constitutional judges have unanimously rejected all appeals against GEO 114, the emergency ordinance that repealed the controversial GE0 13 that brought questionable amendments to the justice laws and that prompted wide mass protests in the winter of 2017, right after the Social Democrat Government came to power. GEO 13 attempted to decriminalize the abuse of office, among others.
After the famous GEO 13 had been repealed through GEO 14, 17 constitutional challenges have been filed to the Constitutional Court. Today, CCR have dismissed all of them.
If GEO 14 had been declared unconstitutional, GEO 13 would have come into force.
The controversial GEO 13 has prompted the largest mass protest movement in Romania after the fall of the communism. Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in February 2017 to ask for its abrogation.
Following the wave of protests, the Government led by Sorin Grindeanu back then issued GEO 14, thus repealing GEO 13.
