Iasi County Council leader placed under house arrest

The president of Iasi County Council, Liberal Cristian Adomnitei, investigated for favouring offender and forgery, was placed under house arrest, Iasi Court of Appeal ruled on Thursday night. Other three persons, employees at the county council, were also placed under house arrest. The ruling is final.

A week ago Adomnitei was taken into custody by the local anti-corruption prosecutors after five hours of hearings in a corruption file in which other two employees of the local institution had been previously detained.

Prosecutors claim that the Liberal local leader helped two of his employees, Teodora Jinga and Carmen Irimescu, to cover some irregularities regarding a contract for printing some promotional papers for the city. The crimes would be related to granting a contract to SC Laser Co Ltd Iasi on September 27, 2013, worth RON 340,000.

Adomnitei, aged 40, stated he would suspend himself from all positions in the party, adding he felt “shocked and disappointed” by Iasi Court of Appeal’s ruling. He has been leading Iasi County Council since 2012.
