Iasi Mayor Gheorghe Nichita was taken on Thursday afternoon by the DNA prosecutors, following the searches made from his home, but also at the town hall and at the local police in a file on corruption allegedly committed this year. The mayor is to be brought to DNA Bucharest for hearings.
Nichita is suspected of abuse of office, being accused of using local Police employees to supervise certain persons, while the local police chief kept him informed of all details related to the pursued persons.
The local police chief Alan Hliboceanu was also taken in by investigators around 13.30, he was gone all the DNA Bucharest.
DNA prosecutors have conducted on Thursday morning 21 searches at Iasi City Hall, at the local Police and at the PSD Mayor Gheorghe Nichita’s home and at those of the police chiefs, in a file on corruption allegedly committed this year.
In a press release issued Thursday morning, the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) informs that the prosecutors are investigating a criminal file with suspicions of corruption crimes committed since the beginning of 2015 hitherto.
Gheorghe Nichita is Mayor of Iasi since 2003, from July 2000 being a PSD member, also leader of the party’s county organization, but also national vice-president.
Anti-corruption prosecutors found at the home of Iasi local Police Deputy Chief Georgel Grumeza marijuana cigarettes, judicial sources said.
