Illegal Weapons Ordered Online in Romania: Over 300 Raids Conducted

More than 300 searches took place on Friday, October 4, throughout the country, on persons investigated for non-compliance with the arms and ammunition regime. A company from outside the country sold online to customers in Romania weapons from the category of those subject to authorization and different types of ammunition, these being delivered by courier companies, without being declared to the customs authorities.

The site that illegally sold weapons in our country is established abroad, but had Romania as its main client, but also did not have the necessary documents to carry out such transactions.

However, the firm is said to have sold hundreds of weapons over the past few months, during which police said they were able to trace and monitor the transactions and are now trying to recover as many of the illegally sold weapons as there are the suspicion that some of them would have been modified, so that they would become much more dangerous when they were used.

The Romanian authorities continue to carry out traffic filters, stopping cars that could be carrying such weapons, in an attempt to recover them all.

The Romanian police announced, in a press release, that they are executing “316 home search warrants in all the counties of the country”. In this file, investigations are being carried out for non-compliance with the arms and ammunition regime.

The police officers documented the criminal activity of a commercial company outside the territory of the country, which, through a website, would have sold, on the territory of Romania, to natural persons, weapons from the category of those subject to authorization and various types of related ammunition, without respecting the conditions of the law regarding the weapons and ammunition regime.

The activity would have been carried out by placing orders to the online store, and the company would have delivered the weapons and ammunition to the Romanian buyers, through the courier companies that bring the goods into the country, without declaring this fact to the customs authorities and without fulfilling the required conditions by the national legislation in this field. The action is aimed at increasing the degree of safety and removing some weapons subject to authorization from the illegal circuit.

Also, on Friday morning, “raids” type actions are taking place throughout the country, in order to prevent antisocial acts, the Romanian Police announces. The action is organized in a criminal file, instrumented at the level of the Environmental Crime Investigation Service of the Constanța County Police Inspectorate, under the supervision of the prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Constanța Court”, announced the Romanian Police.
