The Judicial Inspection is conducting checks on Thursday regarding possible disciplinary violations in the decision of the Court of Appeal to release former mayor Cristian Popescu Piedone and two employees of the District 4 city hall, in the file of the authorization of ‘Colectiv’ nightclub.
Former Bucharest District 4 mayor, Cristian Popescu Piedone and the two women, employees of the District 4 city hall, Luminita Larisa Ganea and Aurelia Iofciu, remanded in Saturday in the ‘Colectiv’ fire case, were from prison, after Bucharest Court of Appeal admitted their appeals on Wednesday. The ruling is final and was pronounced by Judge Luchian Constantin Constantinescu.
Piedone is charged with abuse of office and forgery related to issuing the operating permit for the ‘Colectiv’ nightclub where a deadly fire on October 30 killed 53 persons and injured over 150.
Aurelia Iofciu, head of the commercial authorizations Department within the District 4 city hall, and Luminita Larisa Ganea, employee at the same department are also charged with complicity to abuse of office and forgery.
Bucharest Court last Saturday decided to take on remand for 30 days the former Bucharest District 4 mayor, Cristian Popescu Piedone and other two women, employees within the District 4 city hall in the file regarding the ‘Colectiv’ nightclub authorization. They are charged with abuse of office and forgery. Anti-corruption prosecutors say the former mayor together with his two subordinates “assumed the consequence of the club’s operating in unsafe conditions when they issued the operating permit only based on the statutory declaration which was not compliant with the active laws.”
