Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Wednesday that the main amendment to the legislation to protect victims of sexual harassment is that they will be able to file anonymous complaints.
“Another subject with which we were indebted to public opinion is the amendment of the legislation to protect the victims of sexual harassment. The main change is that the victims of these attacks can also submit anonymous complaints”, PM on Wednesday, at the beginning of the Government meeting.
According to him, in order for the complaint to be examined and resolved, it must contain indications of sexual harassment or moral harassment. “We also come with rules that allow universities and other institutions, including pre-university education units, to take measures to discourage this phenomenon”, the prime minister added.
The Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, announced, on August 1, in the Government meeting, that they are discussing the amendment of the legislation, so that all notifications regarding the violation of university ethics are quickly analyzed, regardless of whether they are made formally or anonymously.
“Reports concerning criminal acts, for example harassment, will be sent directly to the prosecutors and the Police”, announced the minister.
The measures to amend the law on sexual harassment come after the high-sounding cases of two professors and sociologists from the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA), Alfred Bulai and Marius Pieleanu, accused by current and former female students of sexual abuses. The women denounced they could not file complaints against their professors, as the law forbade anonymous complaints to be taken into account.
