Legal Committee senators veto start of criminal prosecution against ex-PSD Health minister

Senators from the Legal Committee have rejected on Monday the anti-corruption prosecutors’ request to start criminal prosecution against the former Social Democrat minister of Health Florian Bodog, currently a PSD senator.

Bodog has been heard in the Senate’s Legal Committee on Monday. The committee has declined prosecutors’ criminal prosecution request by 6 votes in favor, 6 against and one abstention.

The National Anti-corruption Directorate has asked the Senate to consent for Florian Bodog’s being prosecuted. DNA prosecutors accuse the former Health minister that, when he held the minister seat, he would have intervened so that a person he had hired as personal advisor should cash in his salary for a period of 12 months without coming to work and without carrying out this paid activity.

In 2019, senators rejected a similar request regarding Florian Bodog, but later on prosecutors obtained further information that the he had committed other four crimes of forgery and abuse of office.
