Senator Mircea Geoana, former PSD President and ex-Foreign minister was heard at the National Anti-corruption Directorate on Wednesday. He came together with his lawyer and refused to make any statements.
After leaving the DNA’s HQs, where he stayed for about an hour, Geoana said he had been called to make a statement in an ongoing file, adding he cannot say much, as it is a case in the criminal prosecution stage.
Judicial sources told local media that Geoana was subpoenaed for hearings, as witness in the file of Marian Vanghelie, the suspended District 5 mayor who is serving a pre trial detention since March 14 under charges of abuse of office, bribery and money laundering. Prosecutors claim Vanghelie committed these crimes by favoring the companies owned by businessman Marin Dumitru in assigning public works contracts of the District 5 City Hall.
Mircea Geoana and Marian Vanghelia were ousted from the Social Democrat Party in November last year and in March the two of them announced they would set up a new political party- the Romanian Social Party.
