According to a release from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Prosecutor General requests to become a permanent member of the Supreme Defence Council (CSAT), in order to be representative for the judiciary at the highest level.
Currently, Romania has an interim Prosecutor General, Bogdan Licu, who has undertaken the office after Tiberiu Nitu’s resignation on February 2, following his involvement in the motorcades scandal, antena3.ro reports.
The Prosecutor General’s release reads that “the management of the Public Ministry has sent a proposal for completing Law 415/2002 regarding the organisation and functioning of CSAT, by including as member the Prosecutor General upon the High Court of Cassation and Justice. (…) The membership would be a constitutional argument, as a proof of balance of the state powers, without breaching the principle of separation of powers. (…) The reason for this membership is legitimate, necessary and proportional to the purpose of CSAT.”
