Record heroin seizure in Romanian northern customs house

Over 330 kilos of heroin have been tracked down in two trucks which were attempting to leave Romania on Tuesday through Petea customs house in Satu Mare county, TVR informs. The same source says it is the biggest heroin seizure in the past 25 years.

Romania was just a transit country. The drugs originated most probably from Afghanistan and headed for the Netherlands. The traffickers were Turkish. The dismantling action was coordinated by the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), in cooperation with Turkish and Ukrainian investigators.

The heroin had 53-65 percent purity, as DIICOT representatives informed in a press conference.

The truck was registered in Prahova county, while the drugs were hidden in a special place near the tank. The parcels were covered with indigo paper and soaked in paprika and pepper so that they shouldn’t be tracked down by the anti drug dogs.

The seizure worth EUR 40m on the black market was taken to Bucharest by a helicopter of the Interior Ministry.
