Liviu Dragnea’s request to get out of jail for a day denied

Former PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea has requested permission for one day out of prison from Rahova Penitentiary where he is serving a 3-and-a-half prison sentence for corruption, sources from the National Penitentiaries Administration told G4Media.ro.

However, the penitentiary has denied his request.

The above mentioned source had initiallt revealed that Dragnea had obtained a whole day’s permission early next month.

The leader of the penitentiaries trade unions, Sorin Dumitrascu, used to say about Dragnea’s furlough. “After almost five months in jail, the one who oppressed the penitentiary system through the party he had run, and the one who treated in contempt the working conditions of the police officers employed in penitentiaries, is enjoying the permission of getting out from prison for one day“.

Following repeated delays, the judges of the High Court of Cassation and Justice gave the verdict on May 27, one day after elections, in the Teleorman fictitious hiring file.

Liviu Dragnea and Floarea Alesu were the only ones who received a prison sentence, the other defendants in the file weree either acquitted, or got sentences with suspension, meaning they will have criminal record, but will not go to jail.

The former PSD leader had two attempts of getting out of prison, by using two extraordinary appeals against the final ruling: an action for annulment, filed on October 18, where he asked for a retrial and an appeal filed on October 22, eyeing for an annulment of the sentence.
