London has been the master destination for the Romanians travelling by plane last year. Flights from Bucharest’s ‘Henri Coanda’ Airport to London has exceeded other ones to Paris or Rome, for instance, show data by the Bucharest National Airports Company.
Most of the planes flying from the largest airport in Romania are heading to London, to Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick or Stansted airports. During the summer season this year, 69 flights are scheduled on a weekly basis to the UK capital.
Low cost airline such as Wizz Air, Blue Air or Ryanair are fighting flag carriers such as Tarom or British Airways to provide flights form Romania to UK. According to the latest statistics, over 140,000 Romanians are registered in the UK.
Great Britain has also become a travel destination for the Romanian tourists in the past years, alongside Italy or Spain, where there are also large Romanian communities living and working.
‘Henri Coanda’ International Airport in Bucharest, formerly known as Otopeni, registered 9.27 million passengers last year, almost 1 million more than the previous year (up by 11 percent), posting the biggest increase in the past three years.
