No candidate has joined the race for the anti-corruption chief prosecutor position yet, after the revocation of Laura Codruta Kovesi, although registrations kicked off since Tuesday. Justice Minister Tudorel Toader has confirmed there is no one willing to race for this position yet.
Potential candidates have only few days left to submit their applications, as the deadline is July 23. However, Justice Minister is convinced there will be more candidates willing to run for the DNA leadership than for the DIICOT.
„I am not monitoring every minute But there was no candidature submitted until Wednesday, around 10 a.m. I say to wait until Monday, to see if anyone will submit application. My conviction is there will be more candidates than they were for DIICOT leadership,” Toader said on Thursday morning.
Justice Ministry announced on July 9 that selection for nominating a new DNA head has started and procedure will last until July 30, with prosecutors being able to submit their applications by July 23.
Among the documents the candidates must submit, there are a proof certifying their seniority stipulated by the law, a CV and a draft about exerting the duties specific to the position of chief prosecutor, which should not exceed 30 pages.
