Setting up terraces of restaurants and cafes in the Romanian Capital’s OId Town will be banned in front of the buildings that gave damaged facades, for which owners have not started repairing and consolidation works, according to a draft resolution adopted by the Bucharest General Council on Wednesday.
Until now, the terraces were banned just in front of the buildings “with significantly damaged facades, with a risk of having their decorative elements and plastering collapsed”.
The draft resolution has passed today by 33 votes in favour, 18 against and 2 abstentions.
The authorities to ascertain and apply sanction in this case are the General Directorate of Local Police of Bucharest.
The leader of the PSD councilmen, Aurelian Badulescu has voiced doubt that this resolution would be enforced, arguing that the representatives of the Local Police will have to establish if a facade is fit or not. Badulescu added that the measure will affect the HoReCa sector.
PNL councilman George Nicolaie replied that the Local Police will only take note of the damaged facades and will send the observation to the urban planning department within Bucharest City Hall where the final decision will be taken.
