OMV Petrom donates EUR 10 M for the first pediatric oncology hospital in Romania

OMV Petrom announced a donation of EUR 10 million for the construction of the first pediatric oncology hospital in Romania, a project developed by Daruieste Viata Association, with Oana Gheorghiu and Carmen Uscatu as co-founders.
The sum raised so far from donations and sponsorships has exceeded EUR 15,5 million. “The additional EUR 10 million given by OMV Petrom helps us conclude the project according to the determined timetable,” says Carmen Uscatu. Moreover, the sum donated by OMV Petrom will contribute to equipping the hospital with the needed medical devices, added Oana Gheorghiu. At the same time, she said that the sum will also allow the association to send doctors who will work in the hospital for training abroad.
Out of those EUR 10 million, EUR 5 M will be used to buy the medical equipment needed to diagnose and treat childhood cancer: a radiotherapy device, a CT device, equipment for the operating rooms, as well as to the training abroad of the medical staff. The rest of EUR 5 M will be directed to sanitary and electric facilities and for interior fittings.
The Pediatric Oncology and Radiotherapy Hospital will be the first such unit specialised in pediatric oncology in Romania and will function within Marie Curie Hospital for Children in Bucharest.
