Health Ministry confirmed one more death because of measles after one-year-and-three-month baby girl infected with this virus died in hospital in Timisoara, with death toll climbing to nine. The little girl hadn’t been vaccinated against measles.
“An one-year-and-three-month baby girl from Timis county was hospitalized with measles symptoms. Her health condition has worsened and her body failed. The tests sent to the Cantacuzino Institute confirmed she had been infected with measles. At present the outbreak balance sheet points to 1,969 infections in 33 counties, with death toll climbing to nine, including three children. None of the children who lost their life to measles were vaccinated. Adults were neither vaccinated nor the scheme was complete,” says the Health ministry’s spokesperson Valentin Popescu.
The baby girl who has just died was admitted at Victor Babes Hospital in Timisoara this month, but due to the complications of the disease her body failed and could not fight the virus anymore.
The measles epidemics burst this autumn made the Health Ministry, representatives of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Public Health Institute, propose several actions to stop the virus expansion. Among the proposals there was shifting the vaccination age of the children, from one year old to nine months, as experts revealed that the measles outbreak can affect children under 1.
