One pilot dead, one injured as two small planes collide in Suceava

Two small airplanes collided in the air on Saturday, at Frătăuţii Vechi, Suceava County, during training flights, and then fell outside the runway. One of the pilots involved in the Suceava air crash has died and the other one was taken by a SMURD helicopter to the hospital.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), the unconscious pilot was declared dead, digi24.ro reports.

“The unconscious pilot was declared dead. The other pilot was taken out of the plane and was stabilized by the medical teams. A SMURD helicopter was requested to take over the pilot to UPU Iasi,” IGSU informed.

The pilot who was seriously injured in the plane crash in Suceava is 53 years old and is from Timisoara. Sorin Bochiş, son of an aviator, has over 10,000 flight hours, flew on supersonic aircraft, and spent some years in the US, then he has returned after the World Trade Center terrorist crashes.

An air show had to be organized Saturday afternoon at the ‘Stefan cel Mare’ International Airport in Suceava.

According to the announcement of the event, some of the best aerobatic pilots in the country were to participate: professionals from the elite Romanian Aeroclub – Hawks of Romania, the Acrobats and Lithuanian pilot Jurgis Kairys, a legend of aerial acrobatics and multiple world champion, pilots of the Bucovina Fly Club Association, as well as Valer Novac. The surprise of this year’s edition was the ASALT team, with an exceptional show of two high performance aircraft ‘Skybolt of Romania’.
