Over 6,000 people were evacuated from the floods

6,014 people have been evacuated from 28 localities in the counties of Argeș, Brașov, Galați, and Vaslui. Most of them are from Galați county, where 5,937 people were relocated. Additionally, 684 people refused evacuation. Maritime and river traffic has been suspended, and operations in all ports in Constanța county and at Bara Sulina, in Tulcea county, have been halted due to unfavorable weather conditions, including strong winds. The IGSU reports that weather effects have been recorded in 90 localities across 27 counties, where fallen trees and poles damaged 11 cars and 2 houses.

“From my point of view, the response was professional, by the book, and I’m glad we took preventive measures to avoid any loss of life,” said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu during a command meeting at the Interior Ministry on Monday morning.

“We had a red code from Galati and three more nowcasting codes appeared in Bacău, Neamț, and Vrancea. At this moment, the situation is under control,” added Raed Arafat, the head of the Department for Emergency Situations.

ISU Galaţi reported that no special problems were registered overnight due to the Red Code of rains and floods, in Galati county, where on Sunday it was decided that in 25 localities all people living in areas at risk of flooding should be evacuated.

Galati County was on Monday, September 30, from 00:00 until 9:00, under the Red Code of heavy rainfall and storms, the forecast sent by the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management being 40 – 50 l /sqm, and in the central and western part of the county, with a high probability of 80 – 100 l/sqm.

Taking into account the warnings issued by specialists regarding the heavy rainfall that will affect Galati County, with an impact on the increase in river flows in the Bârlad, Prut and Siret hydrographic basins, as well as significant leaks from the slopes, the County Committee for Emergency Situations decided on Sunday, 29 September, that in 25 localities, the emergency evacuation of people in areas at risk of flooding is necessary.

“In this regard, evacuation orders were issued, as a result of which 239 people were evacuated and resettled in the spaces specially arranged by the local authorities. Following the information from the field, carried out by the intervention forces and the local authorities, another 4,613 people, who live in areas at risk of flooding, chose to go to their relatives so that they would be safe. There were also cases in which people refused to leave their homes. In this situation, approximately 300 people, who are under the attention of the intervention forces, who will act as soon as the situation requires it”, transmitted, on Sunday night, Galati Prefecture.

In the 25 localities – Corod, Valea Mărului, Cudalbi, Costache Negri, Pechea, Cuza Vodă, Slobozia Conachi, Vameş (Piscu), Tudor Vladimirescu, Corni, Bereşti, Jorăşti, Băneasa, Târgu-Bujor, Fârțaneşti, Folteşti, Frumuşita, Podoleni (Barcea), Bereşti Meria, Măstăcani, Griviţa , Suhurlui, Bălăbăneşti, Smulţi and Drăgăneşti – school courses were suspended for September 30.

“Following the manifestation of the forecasted hydrometeorological phenomena, in the last 24 hours effects were recorded in 116 localities from 29 counties (AR, AG, BC, BT, BR, BV, BZ, CL, CJ, CT, CV, DB, GL, GR, HD, IL, IS, IF, NT, OT, PH, SJ, SB, SV, TM, TL, VL, VS, VN) and the municipality of Bucharest, where it intervened to evacuate water from 11 houses, 16 yards, 6 cellars, 4 basements of blocks, 1 public institution, 1 economic operator warehouse and 12 streets, as well as for the clearance of 79 trees and 5 electricity poles collapsed on the roadway, 14 vehicles and 2 buildings being damaged”, reports IGSU, in a press release.

Also, 60 people were evacuated in Vaslui county, 6 people in Brașov (Budila locality), 11 people in Argeș (Lerești locality), and another 684 people refused evacuation.

In this interval, a special situation occurred in Covasna county, where the military firefighters intervened in the Ghidfălău locality to rescue 11 people (8 adults and 3 minors) who were stuck with their cars on a forest road.

At the same time, maritime and river traffic is suspended, and maneuvers in all ports in Constanța county and at Bara Sulina, in Tulcea county, are stopped due to unfavorable weather conditions, including strong winds.

Yellow rain code until Tuesday morning, Orange flood code in 6 counties

The counties of Moldova, Dobrogea, central and eastern Muntenia are affected by a yellow rain and wind warning until Tuesday morning at 10:00, according to the National Meteorological Administration . Between September 30, 10:00 a.m. – October 1, 10:00 a.m., there will be showers in these areas, and especially due to accumulation, the amounts of water will be 25…40 l/m2 and isolated over 50 l/ sqm.

The wind will intensify with gust speeds of 50…70 km/h. Also, in the mountain areas, at altitudes generally over 1700 m in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, there will be precipitation in the form of sleet and snow, and the wind will intensify, with speeds of 70…90 km/h.
