More than half of Romanians (53 percent) were using a smartphone at the end of last year, which represents a rise by over four times as against the 2012-2016 period, reads a Google Consumer Barometer.
Youngsters aged over 25 are mostly using the smartphone as a personal assistant. Thus, 91% of them use the smart device, compared to 24% four years ago. 73% are surfing the net on the smartphone, 79% visit social media platforms, while half of them check their e-mails.
Three quarters of the young respondents (75%) watch video clips on their smartphones at least once a week, listen to music (66%), check the time (71%) or take photos (65%).
38% of the smartphone users in Romania say that they are accessing the Internet more frequently on their smartphones than on computer and only 17% resort to computers to surf the Internet.
Most of the respondents (31%) said that they use two smartphones, while 25% have only one device and 15% say they have three.
Internet users who adopted the smartphones a day-to-day tool globally have doubled in the past four years, mounting to 70%.
Google Consumer Barometer conducted a multiannual study made in 40 countries, Romania included. The survey is documenting 5 years of research (from 2012 to 2016), with Google and Kantar TNS interviewing over 625,000 people worldwide.
