Policemen protest in front of the Interior Ministry

The Federation of National Trade Unions of Policemen and Contractual Staff in Romania, the largest organization in the field, has conducted protests on Wednesday in front of the Interior Ministry (MAI) offices.

The main complaints of policemen are the wages and the under-financing of MAI, ziare.com informs.

“Our protest is determined by the ineffective attitude of the governance in terms of funding the public order, the wages of the staff in this area of activity and the adequate protection of police officers, especially those in the operational structures, who are permanently at the forefront of combating the criminal phenomena affecting the Romanian society,” the FSNPPC informs on Facebook.

In a press release sent to ziare.com, MAI informs that it has taken note of the protest and expresses its readiness to dialogue.

“If the trade union representatives will present certain claims, the MAI will take them over, and after analysis, they will be discussed at a meeting that we propose to be held on Friday, December 22, 2007,” the communiqué reads.

In a response published on the Facebook page, the federation says the meeting should take place today (Wednesday), not on Friday, as proposed by the MAI.
